Nemours is seeking a Registered Nurse for our Peri-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU). The primary role of the Registered Nurse is to implement the patient care delivery model for the patient and their family. Additionally the registered nurse is responsible and accountable for assessing, planning, providing and evaluating, the care provided to assigned patients

Requires RN license in DE to start, and PA/NJ within 6 months of hire. This position supports Surgery Centers in Malvern, PA and Deptford, NJ as needed. Call required holiday, week nights and weekends as well and holiday working as needed by department.

Schedule - full-time, 60 hours biweekly, 8am-6:30pm, with weekend/holiday/call and rotation to surgery centers as needed

Responsibilities:

1. Provides age-specific, culturally competent, and ethical care within legal standards of practice.
2. Assesses patient’s pre-surgical status and compliance with pre-surgical criteria per organizational guidelines
3. Assesses patient’s post-operative status at intervals according to organizational policies and procedures 
4. Interprets information accurately from various noninvasive and invasive monitors.
5. Demonstrates knowledge of underlying pathophysiology of commonly encountered disease processes.
6. Demonstrates knowledge of the physiology associated with various anesthesia techniques and surgical or procedural interventions.
7. Applies the relevant scoring system/discharge criteria for patient transfer accurately as defined by organizational policy.
8. Develops and implements an individualized perianesthesia plan of care. 
9. Manages patient recovery from general, monitored, regional, and local anesthesia.
10. Protects patients from injury caused by positioning, thermal sources, and extraneous objects.
11. Communicates patient status throughout the perianesthesia continuum of care
12. Provides acute pain and comfort management as needed
13. Administers medications correctly by implementing the rights of safe medication practices
14. Performs interventions to maintain the integrity of surgical wounds and tissue perfusion, ensures normothermia, protects patients from infection, addresses co-morbid conditions, and monitors hydration.

 

Qualifications:

• Associates Degree in nursing required ;BSN within 3 years of start date required
• Delaware or compact active registered nurse licensure. NJ and PA required within six months
• Current American Heart Association BLS required; PALS within six months and ACLS within one year required.
• 2 years of critical care or equivalent experience
